Walt Disneys Geheimnisse: Directed by Alfred L. Werker, Hamilton Luske, Jack Cutting, Ub Iwerks, Jack Kinney. With Robert Benchley, Frances Gifford, Buddy Pepper, Nana Bryant. Humorist Robert Benchley learns about the animation process at Walt Disney Studios while trying to find the great man himself to pitch him the idea of making a cartoon about a shy dragon.

“God, I love this film. Itu0026#39;s just such fun.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eAt the time this film was made, Disney was primarily known for his animation but was positively itching to branch out into live-action. This is his first venture into u0026quot;traditionalu0026quot; filmmaking. The story concerns comedic actor Robert Benchley (whose u0026quot;How Tou0026quot; film series inspired many classic Goofy shorts) who, at the urging of his wife, searches the Disney studio top to bottom trying to sell Walt on the idea of making a movie about Kenneth Grahameu0026#39;s u0026quot;The Reluctant Dragonu0026quot; (Grahameu0026#39;s masterpiece u0026quot;The Wind in the Willowsu0026quot; wouldnu0026#39;t become a Disney film for many years yet.) On the way he meets voice actors, musicians, animators (one played by Alan Ladd) and even Donald Duck and Goofy. When he finally finds Walt, he is shocked to see that his story has already been produced as one of Disneyu0026#39;s most charming animated shorts.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eNeedless to say, this film is pretty dated in the age of u0026quot;Toy Storyu0026quot; and u0026quot;Finding Nemou0026quot; (I refuse to put the Dreamworksu0026#39; u0026quot;Su0026quot; word in the same category as these two features) but the interesting thing is how many of these tried-and-true practices remain in effect to this day.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003enSurprisingly, this live-action film is ideal for animation fans. Not so much for the u0026quot;How does it work?u0026quot; element, but just the thrill in being immersed in that world. From sound effects recording to paint application. And Benchleyu0026#39;s funny, letu0026#39;s not forget that.”
