Rekrut Willie Winkie: Directed by John Ford. With Shirley Temple, Victor McLaglen, C. Aubrey Smith, June Lang. Priscilla Williams, a young girl living with her widowed mother and paternal grandfather at the post he commands in northern India, becomes enamored of military life and embroiled in brewing rebellion against the crown in the early 1900’s.

“A widow (June Lang) and her young daughter (Shirley Temple) arrive in the Indian North West Frontier to stay with her Britsh uncle father-in-law (C. Aubrey Smith), a colonel in the British Army. The young girl soon makes a positive impression on all those she comes into contact with, including the warring Khan (Cesar Romero).u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eApparently u0026quot;inspiredu0026quot; by a Rudyard Kipling, this colonial family film is one of Templeu0026#39;s best vehicles and most charming films, surprising from macho director John Ford who didnu0026#39;t like working with children. Ford regular McLaglen and Temple work particularly well together. Thereu0026#39;s plenty of action too, even if some of the filmu0026#39;s politics are somewhat dubious.”
