Short Track (2008)
42KShort Track: Directed by Marie Hopkins. With Pepper Sweeney, Barbara Niven, Joshua Snyder, Ann Bratton. The daily life experiences of Carolinian, Blake Beckett, a five-time stockcar racing short track champion, are exposed through unique characters that work and play through weeks that culminate in 120 mph Saturday nights. Sparks fly as Beckett’s country-singing teenaged daughter falls for a young California race driver. Blake longs to make it to the sport’s top series, while struggling to find a way to help his deaf son follow in his race driving footsteps.
“Excellent racing footage! Fast and fresh! It made me feel like I was back on the track myself. And while Iu0026#39;m not a southern boy, I sure know these characters. Iu0026#39;ve worked with them before.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThe race announcer had to be a genuine pro. He was just too good.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eAnd thereu0026#39;s lots of other realistic touches here. The main character, Blake, is not your typical larger-than-life movie dude. Heu0026#39;s just a regular guy dealing with business and family problems, and chasing his own dream while heu0026#39;s at it. Heu0026#39;s one of those guys who are just likable, and you really want to see him win.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThe young couple was like a mirror reflection of the parentsu0026#39; romance, which was still very much alive and kicking. (Iu0026#39;m glad to see that you can be over 40 and not dead!) The young actors actually looked like they were genuinely having fun. Ann Bratton is hot.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eGood laughs and generally a good time watching this one.”
