Canaries: Directed by Peter Stray. With Robert Pugh, Hannah Daniel, Robert Boulter, Kai Owen. The first wave of an alien invasion coincides with a New Years Eve party in a Welsh valley.

“So this was advertised to be a Welsh Shaun of the Dead-like sci-fi comedy, sadly it fails hard on most fronts.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eIt tells the story of a group of friends celebrating new years just as an alien force makes their move against mankind.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThe characters are pretty plain and lack gimmicks and the aliens are, well theyu0026#39;re basically pale dudes with Lady Deathstrike fingers and they wear……….raincoats. So, yeah.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eComparing it to Shaun of the Dead is optimistic, this just isnu0026#39;t funny. There are a couple of laughs to be had but not enough for a feature movie, in fact in places it gets very serious for extended periods and you forget its a comedy at all.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eFrom a sci-fi perspective it really hammers home the X-Files conspiracy nonsense that is going on in the background away from our heroes, and thatu0026#39;s about as interesting and engaging as a 60 minute special on shoes.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eNot funny, not interesting and the aliens quite frankly look ridiculous. But wait, the worst part is yet to come! The movies ending, is well…………it doesnu0026#39;t have one. Things happen, then youu0026#39;re hit with a to be continued and the credits roll. So this is an incomplete film and chances are it wonu0026#39;t get a sequel so itu0026#39;ll never be continued anyway.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eShould have been better but they just didnu0026#39;t have much to work with.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThe Good:u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eSome great writingu003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eRobert Pughu003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThe Bad:u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eComes across as cheap in placesu003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eNo ending”
