V.C. Andrews’ Hidden Jewel: Directed by Michael Robison. With Tess Atkins, Kristian Alfonso, Crystal Fox, Evan Roderick. Hidden Jewel finds Ruby searching for a new life for her children, desperate to protect her beloved daughter from their family’s dark secrets. Raised amidst the privileged of New Orleans, Pearl (Laporte) aspires to become a doctor, but when one of her twin brothers has a serious unfortunate accident, Pearl’s dreams are threatened and Ruby runs once again to the bayou; and when the other brother becomes dangerously ill, Pearl must journey to the backwaters to find her mother and uncover the mysterious secrets of her past.

“I havenu0026#39;t seen the other movies in this series, so my comment is purely on this movie only.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eAs other reviewers have mentioned, the mother and father appeared to be same age or younger than their daughter – Pearl.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThis is not only about their appearance, but also the vibe they sent. The father just appeared to be so clueless and disconnect, in a way that irrelevant to the story plot, that made him more like a younger brother (who just doesnu0026#39;t care about the world) to Pearl rather than a father figure. For the mother, I blame it on her make up and hair style. The motheru0026#39;s acting was better, and appeared to have more stories to tell (not young and cluelss), but the heavy purple make up made her look like a teenager rather than someone older than her daughter Pearl.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eAnother thing that jumped at me was they mentioned to call 911 (as the number to call police). The number 911 was used in America after the September 11, 2001 incident in US. If the story setting is prior to 2000, it just didnu0026#39;t make sense to use that number. They couldu0026#39;ve done better…u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eIu0026#39;m not done watching yet, but I also donu0026#39;t see how the cover picture has anything to do with the story. Thereu0026#39;s better images from the movie scenes than the snake cover photo..”
