Sappho: Directed by Robert Crombie. With Avalon Barrie, Todd Soley, Lyudmila Shiryaeva, Bogdan Stupka. Sappho, a newly wed American wife, with her husband on the Greek island Lesbos, goes through the pain of unrequited love to a young woman, very much like the namesake poet in ancient times.

“A strange lyrical film, much like the ancient poetessu0026#39;s Sapphou0026#39;s own poetry. It has no violence, no car chases, no gunfights, and yet it manages to be enthralling and unpredictable.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eI wonu0026#39;t tell the story, except that itu0026#39;s about a boy and a girl who wants to be a boy and a girl, and it all gets complicated.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eHere in Ukraine it was a big commercial success – the biggest in the history of our film industry – and also there was a very big reaction against this movie from the church and anti-gays. It seems there are two reactions to this film, either you love it, or you hate it. You can see that from the reactions here too.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThe acting lets the movie down a little bit, but only a little.”
