Transhood: Directed by Sharon Liese. With Avery Jackson. Filmed over five years in Kansas City, this documentary follows four kids – beginning at ages 4, 7, 12, and 15 – as they redefine “coming of age.” These kids and their families reveal intimate realities of how gender is re-shaping the family next door in a never-before-told chronicling of growing up transgender in the heartland. The film is a nuanced examination of how families tussle, transform, and sometimes find unexpected purpose in their identities as transgender families. Lighthearted and deeply moving, this story teaches us something new about being human.

“I really liked watching this and I feel like itu0026#39;s really important to understand the journey that trans people go thru with transition, be it medical or social.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eWhether you agree with all the parentsu0026#39; actions or not, if you try to use them to justify that u0026quot;the kids are being pushed to being transu0026quot; I think you didnu0026#39;t listen to the kids/teenagers in the doc.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThese kids deserve the best in the world and Iu0026#39;m glad they have the freedom and courage to be themselves.”
