Club sándwich: Directed by Fernando Eimbcke. With María Renée Prudencio, Lucio Giménez Cacho, Danae Reynaud, Carolina Politi. Hector and his young mother Paloma go on vacation. Out of season their hotel is deserted. They spend their days sitting on the edge of the swimming pool. Then attractive Jazmin arrives and we see how Paloma loses her son to a summer fling.

“Another good film by Fernando Eimbcke about youngstersu0026#39; life experiences, on the opposite side of Larry Clarku0026#39;s movies in terms of explicitness, or any other silly, boisterous film about male and female adolescents u0026quot;in heatu0026quot;, wanting to lose their virginity. Eimbckeu0026#39;s young people Héctor (Lucio Giménez Cacho Goded) and Jazmín (Danae Reynaud) are rather deprived of what is commonly assumed as social grace, they are a bit on the overweight side and not very expressive (though surprisingly Héctor is quite direct about his need, and Jazmín is able to perform a pelvic dance as any sexy rumbera of yesterday): maybe it is their Catholic upbringing (not mentioned, but sensed), the dominant mother (in contrast to the only father figure seen on screen: an invalid old man) or those peculiar, uptight behavior patterns we tend to associate with middle class, that all make Héctor and Jazmín so vulnerable in their search for sexual discovery. A welcome film that gives space to those unpopular adolescents who are usually looked down on by their peers.”
