How to Eat Your Watermelon in White Company (and Enjoy It): Directed by Joe Angio. With Marva Allen, Emanuel Azenberg, Shelley R. Bonus, St. Clair Bourne. Feature-length documentary on renegade filmmaker, novelist, musician and theater impresario, Melvin Van Peebles.

“Very entertaining, often funny biography of the amazing Melvin Van Peebles, whose life includes writing successful novels in French, directing hit, uncompromised black films at a time when no one else was, directing Broadway musicals, and even a turn as a stock trader. u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eA wild, likable, if hard to figure out man, part genius, part showman and a bit of a con-artist, he seems (at least in this documentary) to have mellowed over the years.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eNot quite a great film, itu0026#39;s not in depth enough, and is too openly enamored of itu0026#39;s subject, but a fun and historically interesting one. Iu0026#39;d re-visit it.”
