“Iu0026#39;ve been a constant reader of IMDb for many years though have never before submitted a comment. Yet here I saw that no-one had done so and, having just watched this documentary, I simply wished to communicate to anyone who comes across this review that this is not only a very thorough film about the life and work of Mizoguchi, one of the most profound and meaningful directors of all time, but also a remarkable portrait full of fascinating and delicate insights. Here we have cinema of course; however, through the contributions of a variety of workers – actors and actresses, technicians, producers – we are offered riveting details about how art is attained and, therefore, a view of an important aspect of life itself. Put together with a modest simplicity, it is at the same time engaging, moving, attractive and thought-provoking.”
