“Sitting through The Face of Winter I felt like the crew were merely going through the motions. To truly continue the tradition of a Warren Miller (RIP 2018) film, his estate will have to break the mold, rather than imitate a previous format. Slavish imitation is a dead end. Take a chance! Surprise us! Thatu0026#39;s what Warren always did.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThe injection of short 5 second clips from older Miller films was distracting; they only made me want to go re-watch the originals. WM-nostalgia was better served in previous years when the crew would show, intact, a more extended slice from his greatest hits.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eAlso, this might just be the dirtbag in me, but, I was a little alienated by the emphasis on high end traveling. After watching adventure documentaries this year, like Dawn Wall or Free Solo, or even the earlier WM films, where the protagonists live in vans and hike into the park each morning, it was off-putting to watch multiple glorifications of heli-skiing and travelogues to Iceland.”
