“I thought of the movie Lu0026#39;EMMERDEUR, from the seventies, starring Lino Ventura and Jacques Brel, when I watched this comedy. Here Gerard Lanvin plays his own character, a famous actor called to star in an American film shot in the South of France. Then begins for him a real adventure, more horrible than a Marine Corps training camp, because of the presence of a dude, swimming pool repairman, and also great fan of Gerard Lanvin. You can easily guess what follows and enjoy the way Lanvin reacts to this intrusion in his life. I guess he also lived the same situation in his ACTUAL daily life, with the endless selfies sessions. Only war in Ukraine can be more unbearable than this for an actor. This is a pain in the ass scheme, with everything predictable that you can guess. It is a bit more subtle than you could expect, with good character study. The key to appreciate a comedy is to measure the link between quirky scenes and the realistic ones. If there is not this link, to appreciate the contrast between those two kind of situations, if there is not this, it is impossible to enjoy a comedy. Because if there are only, ONLY quirky situations, it becomes a totally different film. Here, Gerard Lanvin behaves as any of us would have behaved if we had been in his shoes. This is the realistic side, and the pain in the ass, belongs to the Twilight Zone. If Lanvin had also belonged to the TZ, the film would have been boring from the start.”
