Kyon Ki… (2005). 2h 40m | Not Rated

“Plot Outline: Anand (Salman) is admitted to an asylum where Dr. Tanvi (Kareena), her father (Om Puri) u0026amp; Dr. Sunil (Jackie Shroff) are psychiatrists. Tanvi learns of Anandu0026#39;s tragic past of his lover Mayau0026#39;s (Rimi Sen) death and the murder charge on him. Whilst helping his recovery, the two fall in love against the wishes of her father. The Official Website calls it u0026quot;A passionate love story, twisted by fate at its imaginative bestu0026quot;.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eComment: The story traces its lineage to Hollywoodu0026#39;s u0026#39;One Flew Over the Cuckoou0026#39;s Nestu0026#39; which Priyadarshan has portrayed in u0026#39;Thalavattamu0026#39; (Malayalam) and u0026#39;Kyon Kiu0026#39;. Although some called it a comedy, I would call it a tragedy. Jokes involving the mentally challenged are history. The melodramatic climax actually leaves the viewer nauseating. Character development is poor with lead pairu0026#39;s love and chemistry hardly noticeable.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eSalman is bearable and Kareena though plump looks adorable in sarees. Om Purie, Jackie Shroff and Rimi are passable. Sunil Shettyu0026#39;s cameo was avoidable. Of the songs, u0026#39;Kyon ki itna pyaru0026#39; and u0026#39;Dil Keh Raha Haiu0026#39; are worthy. Priyadarshan could rather stick to comedies like Hungama or Garam Masala for better BO success.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eRating: 4/10”
