Taloompuk (2002). Taloompuk: Directed by Piti Jaturaphat. With Chatchai Plengpanich, Heen Sasithorn, Than Thanakorn, Mongkolchai Yukon. Set in 1962, idealistic healthcare officer Kulasatri has been assigned to work in the cape village of Taloompuk where she meets Jaa Chang, an idealistic navy sergeant who has suffered from his high-minded idealism. Together, the pair witness the natural beauty of their surroundings and the purity of the southern villagers' lifestyle. But a cross-religion love triangle starts to rage while a devastating storm approaches, threatening all life on Taloompuk cape. The movie recreates the scene of the natural disaster that killed more than ten thousand Muslim and Buddhist Thais.

“There are reasons for the rating of 10 by nearly one-third of those who rated it on IMDb as of this writing. Excellent cinematography, music, and casting. Well written story and nicely directed. Plenty of time for character development before the storm, which occurs rather late in the film. This much you should know as well as the storyline on IMDb. The synopsis on the official website may help though the English is poorly written. The film may be difficult to find and what I found has no subtitles despite someone at the end of the film credited as English subtitle editor. Without subtitles you may very well not enjoy it if you are the type who has to understand everything, but since I caught the essential story my imagination filled in the rest. This film is more likely to appeal to those drawn to sentimentality and the first half is rather slow moving. So it is a matter of taste. I liked it.”
