Chico & Rita (2010). 1h 34m | Not Rated

“The film is a familiar tale of lovers that just keep getting separated either by their own mistakes or by events they canu0026#39;t control, but set in the beautiful and refreshing backdrop of Havana (and later in New York, and Los Angeles), with Afro-Cubans as leads. I applaud those choices, because with them are discussions on the under-appreciated to even unknown Cuban music and its influence on the U.S., how immigrants are treated in the U.S., assimilation, and the sexism and racism in the Hollywood industry. The taleu0026#39;s familiarity made it less engaging to me however. It is almost a 7 but minus points for the male gaze on Rita too.”
