Pu-san (1953). 1h 38m

“The Kon Ichikawa film festival at the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. has brought us many somewhat obscure films by this master filmmaker. Mr. Pu is everyman confronted by choices and a need for security both in terms of relationships and finances. Mr. Pu is a man who means well but is constantly being exploited by those in power over his life. He longs for a woman he will probably never have. He feels somewhat sympathetic to the radical students from his math class; but this also leads to disaster. How will his life proceed?u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThis film is excellent. Our lead is a good actor and the script is both profound and funny. This is a comedy but one that will make you think.”
