I Am a Girl (2013). 1h 28m

“Of course it is wrong – but that is the way it is in many places around the world. Girls need to be protected – from themselves, from others, from what life throws at them. The job belongs, and always has, and always will, to their fathers and brothers and mothers and family members. It is not the job of some bureaucracy to demand billions in funding to impose moral values upon other people in the name of what is right. The reason these girls are being exploited is very complex, but it is not a solution to have a bureaucracy act in the role of their father, brother, sister, mother. The solution is to address the complex society issues that result in the girls not being protected by those that should be doing that job – it is not to do that job.”
