A legényanya (1989). A legényanya: Directed by Dezsö Garas. With Ferenc Kállai, Károly Eperjes, Judit Pogány, Dezsö Garas. In the small village of Rátót, every male is called Béla. When a woman gives birth to her child, she names him Józsi… Almost 2 decades later, Józsi becomes pregnant…

“This piece is the first and only movie directed by Dezsõ Garas. He is a well known and respected actor in Hungary, which makes this movie a worth-to-watch picture. It was made at the very end of the communist era – it was unimaginable to make such movie before these times because of political censorship.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThe basic idea is based on the obvious contradicts of the communist system, in my opinion the plot was a bit boring but full of excellent ideas, and a lot of fun – you can taste the original hungarian harsh sarcasm.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThe directing is mediocre (though you should expect a lot of experimentaland well set sequence), but the acting is wonderful, especially the main role, József played by Károly Eperjes, and Judit Pogány as her mother. However, my favorite in this movie is is Ferenc Kállai, the political leader of the litt le village where the movie takes place, Rátót, where every man is called u0026quot;Bélau0026quot;, except the main character, the lad mother. If you have never lived under communism, you might miss the point of this picture, but it can still be enjoyable for you, beside the hungarian masterpiece of this genre, A Tanú (The Witness), made by Péter Bacsó. 8/10”
