Indemnity (2021). Indemnity: Directed by Travis Taute. With Jarrid Geduld, Gail Mabalane, Andre Jacobs, Nicole Fortuin. Theo Abrams is an ex-Cape Town fireman suffering from severe Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, unable to return to work due to the psychological trauma sustained during a failed rescue mission. An increasingly frustrated and volatile Theo’s world is rocked when one morning, he wakes up next to his wife’s murdered corpse with no recollection of what transpired and all evidence suggesting that he’s killed her. When the police label him as the prime suspect, Theo goes on the run, and is soon being hunted by Deputy Chief of Police, Alan Shard, a notoriously ruthless soldier of the law, who is hell-bent on catching Theo as one last act of service before he officially retires. However, when an unknown third party is thrown into the mix, Theo discovers an alarming connection between the sinister forces hunting him in an attempt to silence him permanently for a reason he can’t comprehend; and a recent investigation his wife was conducting into a global armament contractor. When connecting the dots becomes a matter of life and death, Theo becomes embroiled in a desperate fight for survival and must figure out who really murdered his wife before a terrifying conspiracy changes the course of a nation forever.

And all hell will break loose.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eProtagonist Theo Abrams is a firefighter on the run after his wife is killed and heu0026#39;s accused of the murder. u0026quot;Indemnityu0026#39;su0026quot; explosive opening sequence depicts the origin of Theou0026#39;s PTSD, one of the filmu0026#39;s central plot elements. As he and his fellow firefighters attempt a daring rescue, tragedy strikes and two of his colleagues are killed. The scene is filmed with actual fire, which required the character to go through specialized training. The compression and force inside the shack is immense. Itu0026#39;s all in camera. Thereu0026#39;s no way you can cheat it because the firemenu0026#39;s visors are clear, so you can see their faces. Literally walking through flames. What a rush!u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eIn the filmu0026#39;s most spectacular stunt, Theo climbs out a 21st-story window, drops down one floor and crashes through the window below in order to evade his pursuers. Any film weu0026#39;ve watched with stunts that have been performed for real has always given us more entertainment value and a more immersive experience. It feels like we captured a moment of pure desperation and survival on the part of Theo. Itu0026#39;s a literal leap of faith. And thatu0026#39;s what survival is, doing something without knowing if itu0026#39;s going to go right or wrong.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eA nonstop thrill ride packed with stylishly choreographed fights, car crashes, explosions, daring fire rescues and a heart-stopping drop out of a 21st-story window, u0026quot;Indemnityu0026quot; is perhaps South Africau0026#39;s most ambitious homegrown action film. Adding to the fun, lead actor Jarrid Geduld, a newcomer to the genre, performs all of his own spectacular stunts. The film wants the audience to go on a journey with this character and feel like they could be in a situation like that. The audience knows whatu0026#39;s real and whatu0026#39;s not, and the key point on everything, the flames, the house, the car stuff, the heights, it adds an element of green screen or blue screen. Itu0026#39;s a bit too over-the-top and this character maybe wouldnu0026#39;t have done that.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eWritten by Gregory Mann.”
