C'mon C'mon (2021). C’mon C’mon: Directed by Mike Mills. With Joaquin Phoenix, Gaby Hoffmann, Woody Norman, Scoot McNairy. When his sister asks him to look after her son, a radio journalist embarks on a cross-country trip with his energetic nephew to show him life away from Los Angeles.

“u0026quot;Cu0026#39;mon Cu0026#39;monu0026quot; is pretentious – thereu0026#39;s no denying that in certain parts of the film, director Mike Mills may be attempting to convey a certain agenda and political message to the audience. A black and white film, this stylistic decision feels like it was made purely on ego rather than to fit the story the movie decides to tell. That said, u0026quot;Cu0026#39;mon Cu0026#39;monu0026quot; is also one of the most heart warming and emotionally resonant movies that Iu0026#39;ve seen in 2021.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThe story this movie tells is a simple one: Johnny, played by Joaquin Phoenix, is tasked with taking care of his nephew Jesse, who is played by Woody Norman. The film follows the both of them as they rekindle their familial relationship and begin to bond after a period of a few days. Plotless may be an insult for certain movies, but u0026quot;Cu0026#39;mon Cu0026#39;monu0026quot; is plotless in the best possible way – there is no real barrier that these characters have to overcome, or challenge they must conquer. Instead, they have to simply learn to live with each other, and understand each other the best they can.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eu0026quot;Cu0026#39;mon Cu0026#39;monu0026quot; is truly filled with lovely moments of humanity between Joaquin and Woody; as both of them traverse life as it stands for them individually, both of them talk about their own trials and tribulations in an attempt to relate with one another and seek both guidance and acceptance as well as understanding and familiarity. Itu0026#39;s truly beautiful watching these two characters become closer and start to love each other in a father-on relationship sort of way.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eOne thing I really loved about this movie is that it felt extremely unscripted, and Iu0026#39;d be very surprised if our actors were reading from a script. Improvised is the word of the day here, with conversations flowing as smoothly as water (or, in my case, liquor). It truly feels like our actors are simply saying whatever is popping next into their head which, while very naturalistic and realistic, does make for some slightly awkward lines of dialogue at times; as a whole, though, I enjoyed this seemingly improvisational nature.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eu0026quot;Cu0026#39;mon Cu0026#39;monu0026quot; is a very sweet, occasionally tear-jerking, story that I believe you should take time to watch. It might not be your complete cup of tea, but it is a very human story that will certainly put your faith back in people.”
