“I came into this one ready to hate it, considering that the u0026quot;Pokémonu0026quot; films from the Xu0026amp;Y saga hadnu0026#39;t been exactly stellar. u0026quot;Diancie and the Cocoon of Destructionu0026quot; was mediocre and u0026quot;Hoopa and the Clash of Agesu0026quot; was the worst u0026quot;Pokémonu0026quot; film yet. However, this film really surprised me. Not only is it the best Xu0026amp;Y film, I would even say that it is the best u0026quot;Pokémonu0026quot; film in around a decade.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eVolcanion was one of the better legendary Pokémon in a while. While I was a bit annoyed at him at first with how he had the typical u0026quot;disdain for humanityu0026quot; personality, he got to be a much more likeable and engaging character as the movie progressed. His relationship with Magearna surprisingly was quite interesting and felt very real.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eSimilar to the u0026quot;Victiniu0026quot; movies, this film doesnu0026#39;t really break any new ground but somehow manages to make things feel fresh. It has interesting new variations on themes used before in the series that managed to keep my attention.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThe action scenes are an absolute blast and probably some of the most exciting the u0026quot;Pokémonu0026quot; films have had in a while. The film is also complimented nicely by impressive animation and CGI and a great musical score.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThere are just a few negatives. There were some pretty stupid scenes in the film here and there, though thankfully they are mostly confined to the first half. Also, the main villain wasnu0026#39;t really all that memorable.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eAside from u0026quot;The Rise of Darkraiu0026quot;, u0026quot;Victini and Zekrom/Reshiramu0026quot;, and u0026quot;Genesect and the Legend Awakenedu0026quot;, all the post-Hoenn entries in the series have been a chore for me. This film, however, proved that there is still some steam left in this franchise. A highly satisfying u0026quot;Pokémonu0026quot; film that is definitely worth checking out.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eRATING: B+”
