Burroughs: The Movie (1983)

Burroughs: The Movie: Directed by Howard Brookner. With William S. Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, Herbert Huncke, James Grauerholz. Burroughs: The Movie explores the life and times of controversial Naked Lunch author William S. Burroughs, with an intimacy never before seen and never repeated. The film charts the development of Burroughs’ unique literary style and his wildly unconventional life, including his travels from the American Midwest to North Africa and several personal tragedies. Burroughs: The Movie is the first and only feature length documentary to be made with and about Burroughs. The film was directed by the late Howard Brookner. It was begun in 1978 as Brookner’s senior thesis at NYU film school and then expanded into a feature which was completed 5 years later in 1983. Sound was recorded by Jim Jarmusch and the film was shot by Tom DiCillo, fellow NYU classmates and both very close friends of Brookner’s.

“Right, well as I sat down in 2021 to watch the 2015 movie u0026quot;Iron Girl: Ultimate Weaponu0026quot;, I must admit that I wasnu0026#39;t really expecting much from the weapon, as it seemed to be another one of those low budget over-the-top Japanese movies. But still, as I hadnu0026#39;t already seen u0026quot;Iron Girl: Ultimate Weaponu0026quot;, of course I sat down to watch it.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eAnd as it turned out, then I could just have skipped on this movie entirely. Because it felt like it was the collaboration between an 8 year old and a 15 year old boy. The 8 year old invented the characters and wrote the dialogue, while the 15 year old decided on the action sequence – and by that I mean adding an unnecessary amount of topless nudity u0026quot;actionu0026quot;.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eSeriously, what was going through the mind of writer Yasutoshi Murakawa when writing the storyline for u0026quot;Iron Girl: Ultimate Weaponu0026quot;? It was about as immature and pointless as it could possibly be.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eI have to admit that I gave up on the movie early on. Not even five minutes into the movie and you already had three ladies getting nude from the waist and up. So yeah, as I didnu0026#39;t sit down to watch pointless showcasing of naked women, then my interest in u0026quot;Iron Girl: Ultimate Weaponu0026quot; was fading quickly.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eSure, there were some gore in the movie, but it just was nowhere near enough to make up for the lack of interesting characters or the horrible dialogue that was just gut-wrenching to experience. And the movie also had Asami on the cast list, but still, the movie was just beyond saving.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eIt should be said that there are actually some enjoyable enough Japanese movies out there in the same genre and caliber as u0026quot;Iron Girl: Ultimate Weaponu0026quot; was. And that was also one of the reasons why I opted to sit down and watch director Kenu0026#39;ichi Fujiwarau0026#39;s 2015 movie. But u0026quot;Iron Girl: Ultimate Weaponu0026quot; was just a swing and a miss.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eDonu0026#39;t waste your time, money or effort on this one. My rating of u0026quot;Iron Girl: Ultimate Weaponu0026quot; lands on a mere two out of ten stars.”
