Oh, Gott: Directed by Carl Reiner. With John Denver, George Burns, Teri Garr, Donald Pleasence. When God appears to an assistant grocery manager as a good natured old man, the Almighty selects him as his messenger for the modern world.

“u0026quot;Oh, God!u0026quot; is similar in many ways to u0026quot;Bruce Almighty,u0026quot; but for some reason the former has gotten little attention over the years while the latter was a hit. While u0026quot;Bruce Almightyu0026quot; has some funny moments, I think this one is far superior.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eFirst of all, George Burns is amazing. Morgan Freemanu0026#39;s God in u0026quot;Bruce Almightyu0026quot; had a slightly ominous, donu0026#39;t-cross-me nature, but Burnsu0026#39; is a God you can completely trust. He is caring and optimistic, and wants the world to get better. He doesnu0026#39;t throw Jerry into a situation he canu0026#39;t handle; he is there for him the whole time. Plus he is just a really fun guy to be around. Who wouldnu0026#39;t want to believe in a God like that?u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eJohn Denver also does a great job. It is hard to believe he had no acting experience before this, because he is top-notch. He is a kind, honest guy, not a selfish jerk like Jim Carreyu0026#39;s Bruce Almighty. He is nervous about delivering Godu0026#39;s message to the world, but perfectly willing to do it.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eUnlike that other God movie, this one delivers a good message without getting annoyingly preachy, it is consistently funny from start to finish, it has a likable main character, and it features a God who is a friend, not an opponent. I think everyone could enjoy watching this, whether they are religious or not.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eOh, and on a completely irrelevant note, I think Carl Reineru0026#39;s cameo (doing an impression of the portrait of Dorian Grey) is one of the funniest things I have ever seen. That scene alone is reason enough to watch this movie.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003e8/10 stars.”
