Exposed (2013)
5KExposed: Directed by Beth B. With James ‘Tigger!’ Ferguson, Mat Fraser, James Habacker, Bunny Love. EXPOSED profiles eight women and men who use their nakedness to transport us beyond the last sexual and social taboos that our society holds dear. These cutting edge performers — operating on the far edge of burlesque — combine politics, satire, and physical comedy to question the very concept of ‘normal.’ Flying high with them, we get to look down on our myriad inhibitions. This film creates a unique perspective, taking the audience into the clubs an other hidden spaces where ‘new burlesque’ is challenging traditional notions of body, gender, and sexuality. The body types of the performers range from statuesque to trans-gender to disabled, and their personalities from sensational to scintillating.
“Exposed traverses into the hidden underworld of modern burlesque. How this dance of tease and seduction is part of the old school story of telling a story through dance. Exposed also delves deeper into the burlesque perfomers, telling their story, sharing the pains of being outcast but on the stage they find not only a way to share their creativity but also find a community that supports them. This movie is not your typical burlesque movie. Its subjects are both male and female. The streets of the big city are full of misfits but then again normal is only a setting on the dryer. I enjoyed the majesties of this story and the theme of an odyssey of self discovery. Fun, flirty, and full of spunk, Exposed is an adventure. I saw Exposed as part of the 2014 Atlanta Film Festival.”
