Pikadero: Directed by Ben Sharrock. With Bárbara Goenaga, Zorion Eguileor, Ylenia Baglietto, Lander Otaola. Unable to fly the nest due to the economic crisis that grips Spain, a penniless, young couple have trouble consummating their fledgling relationship in their parents’ homes.

“… and I donu0026#39;t mean to be u0026quot;damning with faint praiseu0026quot; here.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eAs with many of the best indie films, this takes a small budget and small cast, set in a narrow context, and makes some telling observations about life and the world in general. (cf u0026quot;That Sinking Feelingu0026quot;, maybe? That kind of charm, anyway…)u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eHe made me care about the characters, even if didnu0026#39;t fully sympathise with their decisions or accept the premiss of their effective captivity by circumstances. Clearly here heu0026#39;s extrapolating from the consequences of the Spanish financial crisis (and global capitalism), but these kind of hard choices about oneu0026#39;s life direction will have resonance for all, I think.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eSome nice touches in the script illustrate how Ben didnu0026#39;t hammer things home (e.g. u0026quot;I wish Iu0026#39;d bought the Renault 8u0026quot; and u0026quot;I bought a screwdriver but it turned out it was made in Chinau0026quot;) but made his points…u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eRecommended.”
