Hevunzu sutôrî: Directed by Takahisa Zeze. With Noriko Eguchi, Akira Emoto, Mitsuru Fukikoshi, Tomoharu Hasegawa. (Japanese with English subtitles) Part revenge story, part existential meditation, Heaven’s Story is 100% modern epic, gracefully threading together multiple suburban tales of lost souls seeking retribution and redemption.

“I would consider many parts of this movie u0026quot;goodu0026quot; from an artistic perspective, but unfortunately itu0026#39;s overall too flawed to say I liked it. It is well acted and directed and the story is interesting and quite intense and suspenseful at times, but then itu0026#39;s also unrealistic and implausible, making it feel kind of weird and surreal throughout. Like a bad dream or something. It doesnu0026#39;t help that there are pretty much no likeable characters except maybe the main girl. Itu0026#39;s bleak as hell so itu0026#39;s not a very enjoyable experience, emotionally. But I would still say that itu0026#39;s worth checking out and judging for yourself.”
