My Prairie Home: Directed by Chelsea McMullan. With Chase Constantino, Rae Spoon. Alberta singer/songwriter Rae Spoon reflects on gender identity, faith, and the challenges of family through songs and stories.

“My Prairie Home is a lovely and brilliant film. It does a great job at the outset of setting up the vieweru0026#39;s expectations. Our protagonist, Rae Spoon, whose made over a dozen cross-country trips on Greyhound buses, tells us thereu0026#39;s u0026quot; something meditative about traveling. Youu0026#39;re confined to one spot, yet youu0026#39;re moving. You canu0026#39;t be where youu0026#39;re going yet, and you canu0026#39;t be where you left, so you end up in this in between space. You have to remain calm and not be too focused on where youu0026#39;re going or else you get impatient.u0026quot;u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThatu0026#39;s good advice for watching this film. My Prairie Home invites viewers to take a seat, look out the window at the passing scenery, listen, dream, and let the story wash over you.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThereu0026#39;s lots to be had here in Raeu0026#39;s insights on her life and the gorgeous cinematography and visual transitions that complement the storyline. Itu0026#39;s a unique perspective that doesnu0026#39;t often get a lot of airtime.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eIf youu0026#39;re here looking for a typical u0026quot;transitionu0026quot; story, this is not it. You will best enjoy the journey if you donu0026#39;t think about the destination. What the film does offer is a poetic, lyrical, and quirky look at gender identify in the Prairies through the lens of an outsider who… belongs.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eIu0026#39;m looking forward to checking out McMullanu0026#39;s other work. What a gem!”
