Masterless: Directed by Craig Shimahara. With Adam LaVorgna, Kaho Minami, Yutaka Takeuchi, Okiko Saito. Kane Madison is an architect working in Los Angeles while his doppelganger-like spirit, an 18th-century Ronin, wanders a parallel netherworld of masked demons and Japanese swordsmen. When tragedy strikes, Kane embarks on a journey of faith which prompts the Ronin to seek out his true master in the spirit world. Both will face many battles along their interweaving roads to peace.

“I watched this film a few months ago and was impressed by the powerful dual story lines. The world of the wandering ronin is its own shade, with a historical/epic feel; the world of the architect in LA has its own feel. Anyone who longs to understand a higher calling than u0026quot;getting byu0026quot; will find some interesting proposals expressed here. No one has to agree with all of them, but recognizing that weu0026#39;re meant for more than what we can see and that thereu0026#39;s more going on than we often understand? Those are priceless discussion starters if weu0026#39;re honest with ourselves. In the filmmakeru0026#39;s first attempt at narrative storytelling, heu0026#39;s captured the allegory of Story while also generating a tale that feels like real-life, too. (For the record, I love C.S. Lewis and The Princess Bride — both of which shine direct light on our lives while also depicting a greater world than what seems obvious.)”
