Die Nacht des Exorzisten (1975)
30KDie Nacht des Exorzisten: Directed by Juan Bosch. With Paul Naschy, Maria Perschy, María Kosty, Mercedes Molina. A young woman participates (unknowingly) in a satanic ceremony and gets possessed by the spirit of her late father.
“Paul Naschy claimed to have started writing the screenplay for u0026quot;Exorcismou0026quot; long before u0026quot;The Exorcistu0026quot; came out. It is difficult not to conclude that he finished writing it afterward. There is a scene in which the possessed young woman interrupts a party with some Satanic behaviours that immediately recalls the famous u0026quot;Exorcistu0026quot; urination scene. u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eHowever, the subtle difference between the two scenes is striking. You see, Eurohorror (and especially Giallo, whichu0026quot;Exorcismou0026quot; is not) exists largely to show rich people being horrible and living empty lives. The women in these stories are usually creatures of pure hatred.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThe scene with young Regan surprising the well-to-do party guests was truly disturbing, as we had an innocent child doing decidedly non-innocent things. The scene in u0026quot;Exorcismou0026quot; when the not-as-young possessed girl makes a scene at the snobbish party, youu0026#39;re thinking, so what? Sheu0026#39;s only doing what women always do in European horror flicks.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eAt first I thought they just didnu0026#39;t have the budget or the know-how to make the girl look u0026quot;possessedu0026quot;, so they just had her act horribly to the other characters, apparently unaware that all women in Eurohorror act that way anyway, so thereu0026#39;s nothing shocking about seeing it here. u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThe movie does, eventually, make with some contact lenses and make-up, and give the possessed girl someone elseu0026#39;s voice, but itu0026#39;s too late. Thereu0026#39;s just not enough going on in this movie to hold your attention for more than a moment. Youu0026#39;re either thinking about how much better u0026quot;The Exorcistu0026quot; is than this movie, or youu0026#39;re not thinking about this movie at all.”
