Alles auf eine Karte: Directed by Juliusz Machulski. With Jan Machulski, Leonard Pietraszak, Witold Pyrkosz, Ewa Szykulska. Set in Warsaw in 1930’s. After six years in jail, framed for bank robbery by an accomplice, the legendary Kwinto has only revenge on his mind. He is a safecracker in the old style, a thief with a sense of pride and loyalty. Upon leaving the jail he learns that his friend with whom he played in the jazz band has been murdered by the same guy – now a bank president – who sent him to prison. Kramer hopes to keep Kwinto’s mouth shut by paying him off, but at the same time he hires a paid gun to kill him. Meanwhile, some young, petty crooks hearing that Kwinto is free want to join forces with him for a job. Kwinto, employing a retired professional and two young admirers, pulls his last job to get even with Kramer…

“I must say that Iu0026#39;m little dissatisfied reading these u0026quot;plot summariesu0026quot; where authors say u0026quot;Kwinto has only revenge in his mindu0026quot;. That is misconception quite common. In fact the film director shows it clearly enough to learn that Kwinto has no revenge in mind. It is likely he will accept the money from Kramer if only Kramer havenu0026#39;t killed his best friend. This murder is the only reason why he decide to take revenge on Kramer and we can see it clearly.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThe film itself is a real masterpiece. One can feel as if it was really made in the thirties not fifty years later. Also the language used in the film would be found archaic today but it is how they were talking in the 30u0026#39;s. The plot is dynamic and interesting without any u0026quot;blackholes of boredomu0026quot; which are common in many polish films.”
