Und das Leben geht weiter (1992)
29KUnd das Leben geht weiter: Directed by Abbas Kiarostami. With Farhad Kheradmand, Buba Bayour, Hossein Rezai, Hocine Rifahi. A director and his son return to a region damaged by the Guilan earthquake, hoping to find the children who appeared in his film a few years earlier.
“After the 1990 earthquake in Iran that killed over 30,000 people, Kiarostami went to search for the stars of his previous film u0026quot;Where Is the Friendu0026#39;s Home?u0026quot;. This film is a semi-fictional work based on these events, shot in a documentary-style. It shows a director (played by Farhad Kheradmand) on this journey through the country in the aftermath of the earthquake.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eWhile this is a really beautiful film with a rather simple plot, there is something a bit more than that going on. Of course, it also has something of a u0026quot;metau0026quot; feel because the film references another film, thus being both that filmu0026#39;s sequel, but also outside of it in a way.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eFor Americans, the film also offers a very human look at tragedy. For reasons not entirely clear to me, Iran is seen as Americau0026#39;s u0026quot;enemyu0026quot;. This is foolish, given that the problem is the government and not actually the Iranian people. This film makes that perfectly clear, with some of the most innocent, caring folks you would ever hope to meet. Whatever caricature we are supposed to have in mind about Iran, you will not find it here.”
