Toryboy the Movie: Directed by John Walsh. Grierson Award Nominated Documentary Feature. Against all the odds, film-maker and Labour voter John Walsh becomes a Conservative Candidate for a seat in a Labour heartland during the British 2010 General Election Campaign. What he uncovers is a place where intimidation and neglect have scarred a town that politics has forgotten. He goes on a quest to find the local absentee Labour Member of Parliament. Using his insights as a candidate and animation techniques, ToryBoy is a political satire that cuts to the heart of the current British anger over politicians who have exploited a system for years. Working with news footage, animation and film from the campaign shot over six months, ToryBoy is a unique insight into the political culture of one of the worlds oldest democracies.

“As an MP, Member of the Public, I often look upon the behaviour of those other MPs, Members of Parliament with dismay. The ludicrous hooting and catcalls in the debating chamber, the expenses scandal and the general feeling, I have, of how insincere They seem. u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eSo when John Walsh, Member of the Public and a previous Labour voter becomes a Conservative Candidate I was sceptical that it could be a story I could enjoy. I was wrong, u0026#39;Toryboy The Movieu0026#39; is hugely fun. John is immediately likable and we happily go with him to a dour Northern town sharing his aspirations. u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eWhen John discovers a scandal, concerning u0026#39;cookie facedu0026#39; MP (of Parliament) Sir Stuart Bell, we are rightly indignant and drawn further into the story but it is one still told from Johnu0026#39;s humorous point of view and still greatly entertaining.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThe documentary is shot simply and effectively with hand held camera which feels open and very personal. This is interspersed with newsreel and hilarious animation that keeps things lively and us informed.”
