Vor der Morgenröte: Directed by Maria Schrader. With Tómas Lemarquis, Barbara Sukowa, Nahuel Pérez Biscayart, Robert Finster. Before Dawn charts the years of exile in the life of famous Jewish Austrian writer Stefan Zweig, his inner struggle for the “right attitude” toward the events in war torn Europe, and his search for a new home.

“Iu0026#39;m sitting around going through movie listings and not really seeing anything I want to see. My appetite keeps saying, u0026quot;Something like BROADCAST NEWS.u0026quot; Thatu0026#39;s what I want. Something smart and funny, with adult ideas and great acting and writing, and a directorial style that doesnu0026#39;t call attention to itself. This may well be Hurtu0026#39;s best performance (is this or THE BIG CHILL, to my mind): however eccentric, Hurt is smart, and to play an unintelligent person without making sure — wink wink — the audience knows — wink wink — hey, Iu0026#39;M not stupid… well, thatu0026#39;s fine acting right there. Hunter is note-perfect, and Albert Brooks is a revelation. (And he can read and sing at the same time!) Great, great work.”
