Matinee – Die Horrorpremiere: Directed by Joe Dante. With John Goodman, Cathy Moriarty, Simon Fenton, Omri Katz. A small-time film promoter releases a kitschy horror film during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

“One of those films that deserved to reach a huge audience but somehow slipped away, Joe Danteu0026#39;s affectionate homage to creature features and B-movie king William Castle is a joy from start to finish. This is due to both Danteu0026#39;s direction – and obvious love of the script – and John Goodmanu0026#39;s delightful performance (what was he doing in crap like u0026quot;Coyote Ugly?u0026quot;). Even the movie-within-a-movie – u0026quot;Mant!u0026quot; (u0026quot;half man, half ant – all terror!u0026quot;) is fun. The only downside is that this rarely turns up on TV and hasnu0026#39;t been released on DVD in the UK. A scratchy vhs is better than nothing I suppose…”
