“More than making up for the lame excuse for a film that was theu003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003ewidely panned u0026quot;Space Jamu0026quot;, this live-action/animation combination featuring Warneru0026#39;s cartoon characters perfectlyu003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003erecaptures the classic Looney Tunesu0026#39; wonderfully nonsensical,u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003efreewheeling spirit. There isnu0026#39;t much in a way of an acceptable oru003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eeven decent plot, actually, but donu0026#39;t let that deter you since thatu0026#39;su003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eprecisely the reason why any attempt to fit the Looney Tunes gangu003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003einto a full-length film would flounder. Instead, director Joe Danteu003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eand writer Larry Doyle erect a perilously teetering scaffold uponu003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003ewhich an insanely huge number of amazingly good sight gags andu003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003everbal puns is set, while at the same time paying some sort ofu003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003ewarped tribute to classic sci-fi B-films of the fifties. The `plotu0026#39; hasu003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eDaffy Duck fired from Warners by executive Jenna Elfman asu003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eoutdated, then proceeding to get security guard Brendan Fraseru003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003efired along with him, and both embarking on a nutty drive to Lasu003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eVegas to find the whereabouts of Fraseru0026#39;s dad, film star/spyu003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eTimothy Dalton, eventually uncovering a dastardly conspiracy fromu003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eACME chairman Steve Martin to use the Blue Monkey diamond tou003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eenslave mankind. Of course it doesnu0026#39;t make sense, and thatu0026#39;s fineu003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003e– itu0026#39;s not meant to. You may point out that the live action/animationu003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003ecombination doesnu0026#39;t always work, that the live actors never reachu003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003ethe manic intensity of the cartoon characters (except for Joanu003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eCusacku0026#39;s wonderfully, ahem, daffy cameo), but really, thatu0026#39;s besideu003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003ethe point when the gratuitously violent and deliriously politicallyu003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eincorrect free-for-all of the original cartoons is so perfectlyu003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eduplicated here.”
