Das System Milch: Directed by Andreas Pichler. With Karim Cherif. There’s one thing milk stands for – health. It’s seen as natural and nutrient-rich. But is it really that healthy? We set out to take a critical look at the milk system. Along the way we’ll meet farmers, dairy owners, politicians, lobbyists, NGOs, scientists. The film uncovers surprising truths behind the system. Who profits at whose cost? Does the system have a future and are there alternatives?

“The twisted, unnnatural reality of the dairy industry is an important topic. Itu0026#39;s also deserving of a better film than this.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eOn the surface, Das System Milch looks like a movie. But despite of nice color grading, professional editing and all around sleekness, the movie lacks cinematic soul. Instead Andreas Pichler offers a pamphlet, a text with some images. He doesnu0026#39;t connect with any of the people he interviews. Never mind the cows.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eIn the international cut, Pichler makes a grave mistake by serving as narrator. His heavy accent makes him sound like a humourless Werner Herzog. This is further accentuated by Pichleru0026#39;s own presence in the movie. Which lacks Herzogu0026#39;s originality.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eDas Milch System is a frustrating experience, to the point where I decided to leave the theater about half an hour early. Even though I agreed with Pichleru0026#39;s view, the movie felt like propaganda. And although itu0026#39;s at times hard to watch, Pichleru0026#39;s prettified pictures and constant use of illustrative music belie the harsh reality.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eIu0026#39;d rather read a book.”
