Flicka: Directed by Harold D. Schuster. With Roddy McDowall, Preston Foster, Rita Johnson, James Bell. Ken McLaughlin struggles to please his family in any way. He comes back from boarding school boasting poor grades and facing going through the fifth grade again, much to his fathers dismay. Ken’s mother, Nell, manages to persuade his father Rob to let him choose a colt from the herd for himself. He instead chooses a sorrel chestnut filly, who becomes injured soon after. Can Ken nurse the filly back to full health?

“This is a mediocre movie from a brilliant book. The script writers did everything they could to slaughter it, making it into a cutesy childrenu0026#39;s movie. Not to be outdone, the casting department then finished pulling everything apart, leaving it to the actors to attempt a salvage. Roddy McDowall turned in a good performance as always; there was just something about his English accent that seemed out of place on the Wyoming plane.I voted a six, because itu0026#39;s a fair movie if you forget that itu0026#39;s supposed to be from the book, which apparently nobody in the crew read.”
