Yim ji kau: Directed by Stanley Kwan. With Anita Mui, Leslie Cheung, Alex Man, Emily Chu. Fleur is the blue angel in one of Hong Kong’s “flower houses” – bordellos and night clubs of the 1930’s. A detached and beautiful performer, she falls in love with Twelfth Master Chan, heir to a chain of pharmacies. They agree to a suicide pact. Jump ahead 50 years to modern Hong Kong: Fleur’s ghost appears in Yuen’s newspaper office, wanting to place an ad to find Chan, who never arrived in the afterlife. Yuen, and his equally bewildered girl friend, An Chor, are captivated by Fleur and her story.

“This is one of the best films Iu0026#39;ve seen. As far as ghost stories go, this is one of the scariest for me. Itu0026#39;s not scary by way Stir of Echoes or Gothika, but it will give you chills like nothing before. Sure, angry ghosts are scary, but a heartbroken ghost is scarier. She could appear to your left right now and ask for your help. Isnu0026#39;t THAT scary?u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eIf you love ghost stories, love stories, Hong Kong and Chinese music, this movie has all that. It was a pleasant surprise to find a film that told a familiar story so beautifully it becomes unique. u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eLeslie Cheung and Anita Mui were perfect for their roles. Watch out for the scene where Leslie wears Peking Opera makeup. Fans of u0026quot;Farewell, My Concubineu0026quot; will surely love the foreshadowing of Leslieu0026#39;s future internationally-acclaimed performance.”
