Game Face (2015)
39KGame Face: Directed by Michiel Thomas. With Kye Allums, Terrence Clemens, Jason Collins, Wade Davis. GAME FACE shows the quest to self-realization of LGBTQ athletes and the acceptance in society. This documentary tells the parallel story of Fallon Fox, MMA’s first transgender pro fighter, and Terrence Clemens, a college basketball player in Oklahoma who happens to be gay. Former NBA star Jason Collins shines as a mentor for Terrence in this inspiring documentary.
“There are two different stories being told – Fallonu0026#39;s story and Terrenceu0026#39;s story. One is great and one is still a huge question mark.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eLetu0026#39;s start with the great one. Terrence is a highly gifted basketball player who has had some bad luck partly due to his sexuality. His is a story of how fighting spirit and determination can take you over mountains. A story of accepting oneself and what makes us different. Hope he has done well with his studies and is living a happy life.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eBeing gay and playing basketball does not create any risks for others health and safety. There is actually not even a discussion nor has there ever been on that topic. The question simply does not exist.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eUnfortunately for Fallon Fox the same canu0026#39;t be said for transgender athletes.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eOf course transgender women should be allowed to perform any sports they like, that is not what anyone is saying. The question is whether transgender athletes should be allowed to compete against biological women in competitions. If they should, should they be allowed to do so without the opponentu0026#39;s knowledge of them being trans?u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThere is a line by Fallon in the film where she says something in the line ofnu0026quot;I dont understand why this is an issue. All I ever wanted to do was to fight MMA and be happy…u0026quot;u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eMaybe so, but if you cant understand why others worry about the situation, then all you are is a full blown narcissist..who may or may not enjoy beating up women.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eI wanted to give this film a lower rating due to Fallon Fox, but it didnu0026#39;t seem fair on Terrence nor the film makers, who Iu0026#39;m sure only had good intentions and wanted to highlight u0026quot;outsidersu0026quot; in sports – which at the end of the day is a good thing.”
