Spontaneous (2020)
16KSpontaneous: Directed by Brian Duffield. With Katherine Langford, Charlie Plummer, Yvonne Orji, Hayley Law. Get ready for the outrageous coming-of-age love story about growing up…and blowing up. When students in their school begin exploding (literally), seniors Mara and Dylan struggle to survive in a world where each moment may be their last.
“The premise is interesting and it could have been decent if it wasnu0026#39;t emotionally flat, borderline badly acted and otherwise uninventive.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThey seemed to be attempting an 80u0026#39;s teen movie vibe but it failed on every front. Langfordu0026#39;s performance felt forced and unnatural. She was trying to be a quirky, carefree teenager but her entire performance felt contrived.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003ePiper Perabo and Rob Huebel playing Marau0026#39;s parents were trying for some kind of cool parent vibe which floundered into emotionless, unfunny supporting roles.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThe standout was Charlie Plumber. When he was on screen there was some genuinely good acting and you could relax. If the rest of the movie was brought up to his level it would have been much better.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThe soundtrack was okay, although a little too on the nose.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eI found myself feeling repeatedly bored and struggling to pay attention. It also bugged me how Mara was always flawlessly made up, even when she was apparently too depressed to move or blackout drunk.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eI hoped everyone (or I) would spontaneously combust so the movie would finally come to an end.”
