The Red Effect (2017)
47KThe Red Effect: Directed by Jordan Miller. With Rachel Addai, Nateice Aisha, Tracey Allyn, Valerie Barnum. Tensions rise in a southeast Washington, DC community following the deadly shooting of an unarmed black teenager at the hands of a white man. An impromptu television interview shortly after the shooting captures a powerful rant by life-long black community member Glenn Johnson who has managed against all odds to find his calling as the leader of a program that aims to give adults in his community a second chance at life. The same program from which the shooting victim recently graduated. Actor Pierre Walters’s epic portrayal of Glenn as a no-nonsense instructor trying vehemently to help his students better themselves and overcome perceptions and stereotypes blends seamlessly as he becomes the voice of his community – a voice desperately needed after experiencing decades of racial inequality. Actress Tracy Allyn leads in the media investigation as Naomi Morgan, a young, white reporter not willing to back down even after being told by her black editor that it’s an open and shut case. The strong supporting cast of Glenn’s students deliver such realistic performances that the audience feels what it’s like to live in their impoverished community. Directed by Jordan Miller, The Red Effect is an intense and thought-provoking film that doesn’t hold back from asking the difficult questions. What is “right” in an America where negative perceptions reign?
“The last phrase in this black vs white racial drama was u0026#39;u0026#39;we cant win it allu0026#39;u0026#39; was probably the best way to tell the essence of this movie. its about washington d.cu0026#39;s southeast district with vast poverty, majority of black and hispanic americans, with loads of gangrelated violence, white majority police force.its classes for young people to learn how to get a job, it may sound boring, but it took me by surprise and made me hang on to the end mostly because of the acting done by Pierre Walters, who has the role as the black teacher of the class. his acting are really engulfing and amazing. you seldomly meet such people during ones lifetime, and the fatherfigure he becomes for most of the class ,are unique and reminds me of my teacher at junior high. actually, most of the classes actors does a good job, but nof course at a low budget this film has been made, therell always be some stiff neck, high shoulders and fluttering eyes in front of the camera.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eas a film product it has a decent filmography and good editing. the playtime are a notch too long, the story are cliche and the soundquality are a bit dim inbetween. what annoyed me most was the choice of music, terrible. what newbies may learn of this film is to let important dialouges/monolouges shine through without background music.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eso as the grumpy old man usually says when surprised of a good movie…its recommended.”
