Night Tide: Directed by Curtis Harrington. With Dennis Hopper, Linda Lawson, Gavin Muir, Luana Anders. A young sailor falls in love with a mysterious woman, performing as a mermaid at the local carnival. He soon comes to suspect the girl might be a real mermaid, who draws men to a watery death during the full moon.

“Odd, cowpelling little film, very mooch in the vein of moovies like u0026quot;Carnival of Soulsu0026quot;, about a lonely, fresh-faced sailor(Dennis Hopper) who falls madly in love with a mysterious, siren-like woman(Linda Lawson) who may be a mermaid – and a monster. Pre-psycho Hopper(u0026quot;Blue Velvetu0026quot;, u0026quot;Easy Rideru0026quot;, u0026quot;Apocalypse Nowu0026quot;)actually plays a straight, all-American nice guy (for a change!), who happens to fall for the wrong beautiful girl. Lawson(u0026quot;Lets Kill Uncleu0026quot;, u0026quot;Apache Riflesu0026quot;) makes for one sexy sea nymph, although she does dance like Elaine Bettis with rickets. Rounding out the cast nicely is the always-snuggly Luana Anders(u0026quot;Dementia 13u0026quot;, u0026quot;Reform School Girls(u0026#39;57)u0026quot;, u0026quot;Easy Rideru0026quot;) as the sweetie next-door who has the hots for Hopperu0026#39;s peach-faced sailor. Shot on a low budget, to be sure, but capably acted u0026amp; directed, with a pretty neat story. Editing problems abound, and the climax is a little hokey, but the MooCow says this is one forgotten flick that should be dug up from the rubbish pile of stinky 60u0026#39;s monster flicks. u0026quot;Night Tideu0026quot; was written and directed by Curtis Harrington, whose stinky directing resume includes such bombs as u0026quot;Killer Beesu0026quot;, u0026quot;Voyage to the Pre-Historic Planetu0026quot;, and u0026quot;Devil Dog: Hound of Hellu0026quot;, as well as stinky 80u0026#39;s tv series u0026quot;Dynastyu0026quot; and u0026quot;The Colbysu0026quot;. u0026quot;Night Tideu0026quot; is one of those few moovies that you actually want to thank American International Pictures for making, since they would have been the ONLY production company to touch a film like this. The MooCow says dive right into u0026quot;Night Tideu0026quot; – the water is fine!! ;=8)”
