The Mentor (2014)

The Mentor: Directed by Anthony Lefresne. With Jes Macallan, Aaron Douglas, Nic Bishop, Abigail Scott. A woman tries to put the loss of her daughter behind her by going back to teaching. In her new job she is assigned a mentor who is hiding a deep dark violent past. Her mentor begins to develop an unsettling attraction to her.

At home, the opening tragedy puts a strain on Macallanu0026#39;s marriage to tennis instructor Nic Bishop (as Brian May). At work, u0026quot;The Mentoru0026quot; displays signs of an unprofessional attraction toward Macallan. Pretty co-worker Renny Grames (as Pam Alber) thinks heu0026#39;s in love. Ask sexy custodian Rocky Myers (as Milo) and he may tell you Mr. Douglas has been sniffing and licking personal items from Macallanu0026#39;s desk…u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eu0026quot;The Mentoru0026quot; begins by stating it was u0026quot;inspired by a true story.u0026quot; If so, true stories are now imitating u0026quot;Lifetimeu0026quot; TV stalker movies. This one follows the formula. If anything, itu0026#39;s a little tamer than most, which helps by making it more believable. The manner in which the tragedy threatens the family unit is also realistic. Of course, the psycho part is fun to watch, and the cast engages. Anthony Lefresne and Chelsea Wofford Haslam do a fine job directing and editing; the cross-cutting, panning and dissolves are great – especially as the camera follows characters from the tennis court, home and to the carnival. Watch for a couple of fancy transitions.
