Gefreiter Romeo: Directed by Alan Brown. With Hale Appleman, Charlie Barnett, Adam Barrie, Chris Bresky. A modern take on Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’. Set at an isolated all-boys military academy, it follows the forbidden relationship between two cadets.

“This is one of the strangest versions of u0026quot;Romeo And Julietu0026quot; Iu0026#39;ve come across, mostly because of its setting. Iu0026#39;m fairly certain there have been more films based on u0026quot;Romeo And Julietu0026quot; than u0026quot;Hamletu0026quot;. This version is set in modern times, but it doesnu0026#39;t feature two characters from warring families. It actually features two boys in the military who have a gay romance. Their love is forbidden because this was a time where we questioned whether or not gays should be in the military. Now, this movie does have a really good moral to it. Donu0026#39;t judge gays, obviously.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThe thing that weighs this down is how the execution is really off. It actually features the boys reciting the actual u0026quot;Romeo And Julietu0026quot; play while in this romance. Itu0026#39;s pretty awkward to watch. I can see why most people think this movie is just okay. The atmosphere isnu0026#39;t that good. Iu0026#39;ll still give this movie credit for putting a new spin on such a classic tale. Since this movie was made, gays have been given complete rights in the United States and thatu0026#39;s something Iu0026#39;m always glad to be behind. **1/2”
