Die Brücken am Fluß (1995)
16KDie Brücken am Fluß: Directed by Clint Eastwood. With Clint Eastwood, Meryl Streep, Annie Corley, Victor Slezak. Photographer Robert Kincaid wanders into the life of housewife Francesca Johnson for four days in the 1960s.
“When you see the movie u0026quot;bridges of madison countyu0026quot; based on Robert James Walleru0026#39;s novel you feel enthralled and ashamed at the same time.Enthralled by the sheer magnitude of the canvas the writer and director employ and the timeless beauty and truth of the story.Ashamed because although you want the lovers united but at the same time you feel that as the children of Francesca you would have reacted in much the same manner. That in essence is the beautiful truth that is Bridges of madison county ,the novel as well as the movie.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThe power of movies is reflected in the hold this gem has over you despite just two real characters going through a small period in their lives very much as any two individuals would do confronted by similar circumstances.Clint Eastwoodu0026#39;s direction is so underplayed that it does not take anything away from the two protagonists. To say that both Streep and Eastwood are brilliant would be the understatement of the century as these two thespians cannot help being anything but. There is no feeling of disappointment or u0026#39;what if?u0026#39;,everything plays out as it probably would nine times out of ten.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eGoing through the production notes of the DVD I read a line by Eastwood which more or less sums up the greatness of Streep. He writes about the casting of Francesca and says very succinctly u0026quot;I made only one call.u0026quot; My only reason for giving a 9 is that I never wanted the movie to end which it unfortunately does after 135 minutes.Itu0026#39;s no wonder that Streep has been time and again acclaimed as the greatest ever ,this despite the presence of Robert De Niro,Jack Nicholson ,Jodie Foster Katherine Hepburn and many others.”
