Mooseowon Iyagi 3: Hwasungeseo on Sonyeo: Directed by Seung-bin Baek, Gok Kim, Sun Kim, Kyu-dong Min. With Ji An, Ji-Yeon Cha, Jo Han-chul, Eun-hee Hong. Girl from Mars seeks refuge at a place run by robots/androids. She must explain to them why she is fleeing the humans, and tells some stories about human fear. Three ‘short horror stories’ within the film.

“The Korean anthology series continues in Horror Stories 3, where a martian seeking asylum (?) shares three stories that, no, donu0026#39;t really have any relation to the interstitial, but hey, thatu0026#39;s how the format goes.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eHS3 starts out extraordinarily beautiful, with amazing art design that continues through the first story, where pre-industrial travelers arrive at a strange village. And this first story is interesting too, a few scares, a decent bit of creep– nothing that will blow you away, just a solid enough story.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eBut the second and third stories are just phoned-in schlock, utterly forgettable, without even the beauty of the earlier parts of the film. A nasty truck driver harasses an unlikable couple, and itu0026#39;s very hard to care about any of them; then, a near-future domestic robot servant goes cuckoo. Theyu0026#39;re the sort of stories you might see on the fourth season of an anthology television show, where the writers had run out of ideas they wanted to tell and were just filling up time.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThe production values are high throughout the film, there is a bit of gore, and there are jump scares and dream sequences, but theyu0026#39;re not overdone. Still, the stories and characters put me to sleep. Time must be up for the Horror Stories series.”
