Hardcore – Ein Vater sieht rot (1979)
13KHardcore – Ein Vater sieht rot: Directed by Paul Schrader. With George C. Scott, Peter Boyle, Season Hubley, Dick Sargent. A conservative Midwest businessman ventures into the underworld of pornography in California to look for his runaway teenage daughter who is making porno films in California’s porno pits.
“Paul Schraderu0026#39;s celebrated collaborations with Martin Scorsese will unfortunately always overshadow his own directorial efforts. His own movies have been variable to say the least ranging from the truly forgettable (e.g. u0026#39;Light Of Dayu0026#39; and u0026#39;Witch Huntu0026#39;, both from the u0026quot;what on earth was he thinking?!u0026quot; category), to the truly unforgettable (u0026#39;Mishimau0026#39;, and u0026#39;Light Sleeperu0026#39;, both sadly overlooked). u0026#39;Hardcoreu0026#39; is one of his best efforts in my opinion, but MUST be watched taking into consideration WHEN it was made, and the censorship prevalent at the time (something a few of the other comments here fail to do). Over twenty years later certain scenes seem way too tame and almost unintentionally humorous to our jaded u0026quot;sophisticatedu0026quot; movie-going eyes, but even so to me overall it is still a very powerful and impressive film. And for those who think it too dated and u0026quot;safeu0026quot; just compare it to Schumacheru0026#39;s lame u0026#39;8MMu0026#39;, a movie which is almost an uncredited remake of u0026#39;Hardcoreu0026#39; in some ways, but one that despite the relaxation in depicting sex, violence and profanity in mainstream moviemaking, fails to pack the punch that Schraderu0026#39;s movie does. u0026#39;Dr Strangeloveu0026#39;s George C. Scott is solid as a straight-laced and in many ways unworldly man who finds himself in the alien (to him) urban world of sleazy strip joints, sex shops and pornography. Season Hubley (John Carpenteru0026#39;s u0026#39;Elvisu0026#39;) plays the streetwise hooker who becomes his guide. Peter Boyle (u0026#39;Taxi Driveru0026#39;, u0026#39;Young Frankensteinu0026#39;)) is a stand out as a crafty low life private detective. Buffs will also get a kick out of small roles by Tracey Walter (u0026#39;Repo Manu0026#39;) and Ed Begley Jr (u0026#39;Meet The Applegatesu0026#39;) as a clerk in a dirty book store and a porn actor respectively. u0026#39;Hardcoreu0026#39; is a very fine movie, one of the most underrated of the 1970s, and highly recommended viewing.”
