Why Man Creates: Directed by Saul Bass. With Peter Hansen, Paul Saltman. Through several amusing live action and animated vignettes, Saul Bass illustrates a fundamental and essential particularity of human nature that keeps us alive and the world turning, evolving and reaching new designs and possibilities: the necessity of creation. And by creation, Bass means everything from art to mundane things, from words and numbers to unusual abstract works.

“This is a very unconventional film.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eI saw this during a lecture at Cornerstone Universityu0026#39;s Journalism Institute. Honestly, Iu0026#39;m having a hard time understanding the filmu0026#39;s application to journalism. Still, I enjoyed it very much.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eI love how the introduction seemed like it was copying off of Monty Pythonu0026#39;s animation style, while, in fact, this was released before u0026quot;Flying Circua.u0026quot; The sixth episode, with the high-jumping ball, provides an interesting comment on deviating from the norm.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThe seventh episode was very uplifting piece on human perseverance. All in all, this is a great compilation of tales that prove that even the most bizarre goals have a chance of succeeding.”
