Provinces of Night (2010)

Provinces of Night: Directed by Shane Dax Taylor. With Val Kilmer, Kris Kristofferson, Hilary Duff, Reece Thompson. A man who left home 40 years earlier to become a country singer returns home to the tattered remains of his broken family and a grandson who is desperately trying to escape the family curse.

“In this genre of film (southern gothic/trash) you can expect to find all negative characters who are wasting their lives away, killing each other, acting crazy, and essentially wasting your time too. You can also expect the main character to get stabbed through the chest near the end of the film by an arrow, or in this film, a pole of some kind, it was never clear what it was .nThe character motivations are all obscure and the story in the end becomes just a confused stew of sex, hatred, and insanity. The of the two stars I give this movie is for the beautiful retro Oldsmobile that shows up in almost every scene, and for the a few of the younger actors, who are quite good.”
