Marilyn and Me: Directed by John Patterson. With Susan Griffiths, Jesse Dabson, Terry Moore, Sandy McPeak. An alternative look at the screen icon’s early years. Fantastically portrayed by Susan Griffiths, Marilyn lives and loves with Robert ‘Bobbie’ Slatzer, possibly her only true love.

“This engrossing telemovie tells the story of the on again off again romance between Marilyn Monroe and writer Robert Slatzer. Whether or not the couple actually married briefly in 1953, as Slatzer claims, is immaterial to your enjoyment of this well directed, written and acted film. SUSAN GRIFFITHS is uncannily like Marilyn, but her performance goes beyond impersonation. She gives the young Marilyn great depth – her need to be loved, her selfishness, her ambition, her warmth – theyu0026#39;re all here. And JESSE DABSON is equally fine as Slatzer – Iu0026#39;m surprised he isnu0026#39;t a better known actor. He makes Slatzer a very real person, easily seduced by the magic of Marilyn and therefore used by her as an emotional crutch whenever her career or love life is on the rocks. What this movie does is go beyond the real people portrayed to tell the story of all those people who find themselves used by those individuals who seem u0026quot;blessed by the godsu0026quot;. The exceptionally talented, the exceptionally beautiful – the exceptional – are also often selfish, but their exceptionality makes it easy for them to use people. Slatzer appears to have been one of those u0026quot;wind beneath my wingsu0026quot; people. Iu0026#39;m sure there are many more in the world – especially in Hollywood. Great movie, donu0026#39;t miss it!”
